Mental Health First Aid for Language Instructors (Refugee/Immigrant Stream)

Eligibility: Any language instructors (ESL and LINC) in the newcomer serving sector are invited to attend
Facilitated by CISEPO, this course will cover self-care and self-awareness, teaching language instructors methods they can use to take care of themselves and avoid burnout. It will also teach how to effectively communicate with language learners around mental health issues.
Language instructors will learn about the social determinants of mental health affecting immigrants and refugees in Canada, how to identify signs of distress and how to help learners experiencing mental distress. Instructors will be able to help their students navigate mental health resources and prevent stigmatization.
It is designed with a trauma informed and anti-oppression approach to mental health and caring for others.
